Teaching Techniques

Get involved in an introduction to teaching. Experience what it would be like to teach a small class. You’ll get the opportunity to pick a subject, create a lesson plan, and learn some teaching techniques.

All the small things

Put the exciting world of microbiology under the microscope as you get to conduct experiments on bacteria and experience what it is like to be a hospital scientist and a food safety scientist

Take your ideas for a walk

Learn how to gain the skills to become a lifelong innovator, entreprenuer, creative practitioner and change-maker. Respond to a creative brief with your innovative ideas in this interactive session.

Who Did It?

Solve a case and get a real taste of Crime Scene Investigation. Learn forensic techniques used by forensic scientists to collect fingerprints, analyse a crime scene, and examine blood splatters.

Test Yourself

Discover the types of medical devices frequently used in clinical and research contexts. Measure your own blood pressure, heart rate, and lung capacity, and discover their importance in health.

Green Power

Climate change and global warming are hot topics. Put on your green hat and think about alternative energy sources to power our daily lives using science, physics, nanotechnology and material science.

To sue or not to sue?

You’ve seen Law on TV – fought on the battlefield of the courtroom. But have you ever thought about Law outside the courtroom? Mediation is one of the ways to resolve disputes outside the courtroom. In this workshop, you will work together on a case to resolve a dispute and reach a solution between two parties.

Justice is served!

The jury is present, the judge enters, the prosecution and defence lawyers give their opening statements and the examination of witnesses begins. Experience what it feels like to appear in court by role-playing in a mock trial. Learn about legal issues, rebut your opponents’ arguments, and put your legal arguments to the test!

Living across languages: multilingualism in action

Did you know there are roughly 6,500 spoken languages in the world today? In this interactive workshop you will explore, visualize, and reflect on the diverse languages we are and have been immersed in. Learn how to draw a language map, create a storyboard and contribute to a multilingual wordcloud. You’ll leave with a better understanding of what it means to be a global citizen in our multicultural world.

Apps have taken the world by storm. If you’re keen to take your ideas and create the next big thing, In the Cloud lets you explore how an app is developed from paper to device.

Game On

Ever wanted to turn your great ideas into a reality? Game On is your chance to create your own computer game. Make up your own rules and add your own design touches. Once complete you’ll get to share your game with your friends online.

Life in the hospital

Nurses have to be ready for anything. Experience life on the wards with hands-on duties in our clinical labs – which look and feel exactly like the inside of a hospital.

Fighting fit

The human body is a powerful and agile thing. Explore the science behind sport in our active workshop and find out why we move the way we do!

Dreaming of the midwife life? Visit our clinicial labs to get practical and learn how midwives provide care to pregnant women and their families.

Be an entrepreneur for a day!

Ever wondered what it actually means to be an entrepreneur? This is your chance to get a taste of the world of entrepreneurship by developing and pitching your own business idea! You’ll work in teams to create your own startup and learn about how you can become an entrepreneur while studying!

Find out how you can increase your chances of getting into the course you want and chat with a panel of students who will share their own uni experiences and decisions they made along the way. Learn about support services you can access, societies and clubs to join and scholarships to apply for.

Our experienced Student Ambassadors will lead you through the Broadway and Haymarket precincts, including a stop at the iconic Dr Chau Chak Building and the 220 seat multi-disciplinary Super Lab.

Engineering the body

Explore case studies in regards to the creation of Prosthetic Limbs and out of basic materials, creatively build an arm to complete basic tasks, such as a high five, picking up and throwing an object. Uses creative thinking and engineering design to address a social problem.

Engineering a better world: Floating Houses

Different climates around the world are shaping the way people live. Explore how cost-effective, strong and simple structures, that can survive storms and flooding, built on or near lakes or rivers could be the way of the future in developing countries. Work together in teams to create an innovative floating house. Will your prototype float or sink?

Da Vinci

Learn about the great inventor Da Vinci and the principles behind his design. It’s a bit of a history lesson and an exploration into the links between technology and context. Students get to build a parachute to drop a figurine to safety – will your thrill seeking figurine survive?

The art of image making

Get hands-on and explore the art of image making using cutting-edge photographic equipment in our world-class photomedia studios.

Remix: Redesign Through Product Augmentation

Create a product prototype by redesigning and rebranding a previously existing product. Students will be introduced to the design process from quick sketching and idea generation through to three dimensional prototype creation using hand techniques.

Draping form and fabric

Learn to translate 3D stand work to 2D pattern. Sculpting fabric and mark marking on the stand, students will drape a basic bodice. This way of working introduces students to fabric manipulation practices that encourage a three dimensional approach to designing with pattern making foundations and terminology.

Unleash the writer within 

How do writers get started? What kinds of practical tips can help? This workshop will introduce you to some creative writing exercises designed to get the writing flowing. You’ll discover that an interesting piece of writing is never very far away!

Lights, camera, action!

Go behind the scenes of a music video shoot in this hands-on workshop. Learn how to record music and create visual effects using the huge green screen in our Bon Marche Studio – just one of the exclusive facilities available to our Communication students.

Experiencing digital and social media

Can’t put your phone down? Find out why in this hands-on, industry-focused workshop that’s all about understanding the ‘users’ of digital and social media. Working collaboratively in an interactive lab, you’ll examine online behaviours and get a taste of what it’s like to be a Digital and Social Media student at UTS!
